A New Baby Girl

** 1/6/13 Top 3 Winner at Whoopsidaisy! **
** 12/31/12 Top 3 Winner at Tammy's Scrappin Corner! **

The last few days have been a whirlwind! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! Santa brought me a new laptop as my last one was four years old and the screen was periodically going black on me while working. The old one had Vista and this new one has Windows 7. Of course, the way my luck goes, the version of PhotoShop I've been using on the old laptop won't work on this new one so I had to find a quick fix to get this card posted. I've done quite a bit of internet research over the last 24 hours and have found free (yes, free!) photo editing software called Gimp which works like a charm! I'm so stoked! I've discovered that my Microsoft Office 2007 won't work on this new laptop either (sigh) so the bucks I'll save by not having to purchase a new version of PhotoShop will more than pay for Microsoft Office 2010 that I need!

Just thought I'd share my good fortune, so now on with this post... The theme for this week's Dutch Dare Card Challenge #197 is "Celebration" and the challenge is sponsored by Crafty Sentiments Designs! Come play with us! I made a shabby chic new baby girl card and chose the adorable "Toby with Present" digi to play with. I paper pieced the image and layered it upon a few more layers. I got to use some papers from a very cool new 6x6 paper pack that I've not yet had an opportunity to use, which is always fun! Had a great time making this card and I'm really pleased with the way it turned out!

I'd like to enter this sweet card into the following challenges:

  • Gina K Designs Pure Luxury ivory cardstock; Pretty In Pink 6x6 Glitz paper pack; Paper and More  ivory canvas and chocolate cardstock; kraft cardstock from stash
  • Crafty Sentiments "Toby with Present" digital image

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

I'd like to wish all my friends out there in Blogland a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! May you enjoy peace, love and prosperity in the new year!

Gotta love him... Our Christmas card this year is a photo of Ed with his girls - me (the wife), Poopie (the cat) and Yvette (the Corvette)! ;)

Big hugs,
Leslie & Ed

Let It Snow!

Christmas is upon us! Can you believe it?! Another busy weekend but I was able to squeeze in a little time in the scrap room today to create another Christmas Blockheads DT inspiration project. I got an assorted size pack of EcoArtBoard from Blockheads several weeks ago and have been waiting for just the right time to play with them. Today was the day and this CAS card was super fun and super easy! OMG - I love this paper covered recycled paperboard! It's great to stamp on and I have more ideas using these fun little goodies, so stay tuned!

I cut a 4.5" square card base from white cardstock along with a slightly smaller square of white cardstock matted on dark green textured cardstock which I adhered to the card base. I spritzed Pewter Perfect Pearls Mists on a 2" square of EcoArtBoard from about an 8- to 10-inch distance for a more speckled snowy look. I hit it with the heat tool for a few seconds and then stamped the smaller Christmas tree from the Blockheads Winter Wonderland stamp set with VersaMagic Dew Drop Hint of Pesto ink and then hit it again with the heat tool for a few more seconds. I matted it on dark green textured cardstock leaving a very thin edge all the way around it, and adhered it in the center of the card front. I stamped the "Let It Snow!" sentiment (also from the Blockheads Winter Wonderland stamp set) on a piece of the scrap white cardstock with VersaMagic Dew Drop Hint of Pesto ink, cut and embossed it with a Spellbinders die. I trimmed off the ribbon slots and adhered it to the card front under the Christmas tree. I finished the card with four tiny clear gemstones in the upper right corner. Yep - that's all there was to it! ;)

  • Paper And More white cotton cardstock; Colorbok dark green textured cardstock
  • EcoArtBoard - Assorted Sizes (2" square)
  • Pewter Perfect Pearls Mists
  • Blockheads Winter Wonderland stamp set
  • VersaMagic Dew Drop Hint of Pesto ink
  • Spellbinders Ribbon Tag Trio Two die
  • Tiny clear gemstones

Merry Christmas Tag

I keep saying I just don't know where this year has gone... it'll be Christmas in another week and a half! Then soon after that, we'll embrace 2013! It's time to post another DT inspiration project for Dutch Dare Card Challenge DDCC #195 - Snowflakes, sponsored by Di's Digi Downloads!

For my 3-D Merry Christmas tag, I stamped the Christmas tree with star in white VersaCraft ink on dark grey cardstock, then cut out all five pieces - "fussy cut" as my friend Karen would say! ;) Then I covered each piece with Versamark and embossed them with clear UTEE. I repeated this process three more times - twice more with the UTEE and finally with White Fantasy embossing powder for a shimmery snowy effect. I assembled the tree on some of the dark grey cardstock and then matted that onto some silver foil cardstock. I added a vertical sentiment, a red satin bow with snowflake charm and black button, and three red flat-back pearls. Of course, I stamped the traditional tag "To:" and "From:" on the back. Very elegant tag with very simple construction! Love it! Hmm... wonder who's gift this will be attached to?!  :)

  • Paper And More dark grey textured cardstock; Marcos red cardstock; Bazzill Basics Silver Foil cardstock
  • Christmas tree stamp from the Blockheads Paper Arts Winter Wonderland stamp set
  • Versamark
  • Ranger Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel
  • Sweet Stamps Fine Detail Fantasy White embossing Powder
  • Spellbinders Classic Squares die
  • Mrs. Grossman's Christmas Card Captions
  • "To:" and "From:" stamps from the Stampin Up! A Greeting For All Reasons stamp set
  • Memento Tuxedo Black ink
  • Wild Orchid Crafts snowflake charm
  • Double face red satin ribbon; black button; red flat-back pearls

Canvas/Burlap Rustic Santa Decor

It's been another busy weekend that's gone by way too fast! I'm busting at the seams to post my newest Blockheads Paper Arts DT inspiration project that is part of our ongoing gift ideas showcase! The focal point of this 5" x 6" free-standing Christmas decoration is a Santa stamped on canvas with VersaCraft Real Black ink and colored with Ranger Distress Markers. I used stamps from the awesome Blockheads - An Illustrated Christmas and Winter Wonderland stamp sets. I also am very proud to report that I used scraps for the bulk of this project - foam board, burlap, cardstock and cardboard - which is very cool! I paper-pieced the holly leaves on his hat and blinged the holly berries with small red gemstones! To add to the rustic feel, I distressed the edges of the main base as well as the canvas Santa piece, and I even included two tiny branches in the flower spray from a tree in our yard! I absolutely love the way this turned out and am not so sure that I'll give it away as originally planned! It's adorning our mantle at the moment! ;)

This was super easy! I had a 2' long by 5" wide strip of foam board left over from another project, so I cut off a 6" long piece. I trimmed a scrap piece of caramel brown textured cardstock to fit the foam board, adhered it to the foam board and distressed the edges with Ranger Walnut Stain distress ink. I had one small hunk of burlap left over from a couple projects, which was just the right size, so I evened up the edges, frayed them and adhered the burlap to the base.

I stamped the Santa (from the Blockheads - An Illustrated Christmas stamp set) on a quarter sheet of Studio Sticky Back Natural Canvas with VersaCraft Real Black ink and colored his hat, beard and mustache with Ranger Distress Markers. I distressed the edges of the canvas with Ranger Walnut Stain ink, then matted the canvas piece to a scrap of dark brown cardstock. I wanted stability of the piece so I did not peel the sticky back off the canvas before I matted it. I affixed three flat head bronze eyelets to the right side of the matted canvas piece (two at the top and one at the bottom), then adhered it to the base, centered on the piece of burlap.

I stamped the upper left corner of the Santa again, twice, on a scrap of green cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then cut out the holly leaves. I adhered them to his hat and affixed three small red gemstones for the holly berries. Using the small Happy Holidays stamp from the Blockheads Winter Wonderland stamp set, I masked off "Holidays" and stamped "Happy" on a scrap of ivory cardstock with Memento Rich Cocoa ink, then masked off "Happy" and stamped "Holidays" right beside it. I cut it using a Spellbinders Ribbon Banners die, distressed it haphazardly with Ranger Walnut Stain ink, and adhered it diagonally across the top left corner of the Santa canvas piece.

I created a flower spray with several WOC paper flowers (Gold Stickles added to the red flower), a light brown leaf die cut, two small twigs from a tree in our yard and some coiled brown DMC memory thread, and adhered the spray to the lower left corner of the Santa canvas piece.

I created an easel from a scrap piece of cardboard, 2.5" wide x 9" long, and scored it at .5", 4", 4.75" and 5.5". I creased the cardboard on the score lines, creating a triangle, and glued the .5" flap to the top inside of the triangle, then adhered the easel to the back of the base.

I'd love to enter my Rustic Santa Decor into the following challenges:

  • Scraps of foam board, burlap, caramel brown/light brown/dark brown/green/ivory cardstock; cardboard
  • Studio Sticky Back Natural Canvas
  • Santa stamp from the Blockheads - An Illustrated Christmas stamp set
