Flower Garden Mini Book

I played for a little while in the scrap room this weekend and created a very colorful Blockheads Paper Arts DT inspiration project - another mini book for the current Blockheads Technique Challenge - Easy Mini Books hosted by our design teammate, Trisha Neal. You still have time to come play with us! These mini books are so much fun! Visit the Blockheads 2 Simple Book Binding techniques page to check out Trisha's tutorial. She is definitely the Mini Book Queen! ;)

Scroll down for individual photos of the pages in my Flower Garden mini book.

I used quite a few Blockheads stamp sets - Flowers Full Sheet, Honey Bees ATC Set, Grunge It Up, Flowers: Daisies, Inspired by Nature, Floral Ornaments Full Sheet and Backgrounds Borders Full Sheet - as well as Artistic Outpost's Old Grist Mill stamp set. I created the cover from a left-over piece of re-purposed cardboard from the back of a mat stack, stamped a flowers background on the front and back with Memento Bamboo Leaves ink, and adhered a piece of brown suede paper to the spine. I cut two 6" x 3" panels and scored each at 3" to make a 3" square book and then decorated all four pages, front and back, on each panel. I stamped the main image on each page and masked it with JudiKins Eclipse Mask Tape, then randomly stamped a curly que from the Grunge It Up stamp set with VersaMagic Wheat dew drop ink all over each page being sure to go off the edges. Next, I stamped text on each page with Memento Bamboo Leaves ink. I lifted the Eclipse Mask Tape off each page and colored the images with Crayola colored pencils and odorless mineral spirits with blending stumps to blend the colors. I stamped various sentiments and words from several of the Blockheads stamp sets on kraft cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and affixed them to the pages. I die cut a frame for one of the images and decorated it with tiny red gemstones. I found a small purple butterfly in my stash that I used on one of the pages. I punched holes 3/4" inward from the top and bottom edges of the cover and both scored panels, and affixed the panels separately to the cover so I'd have four pieces of twine to tie. I had some handmade paper beads in my stash that I had made from some green iridescent paper a while back, and they were perfect to put on the ends of the twine! I decorated the front with "Flower Garden" stamped into faux leather and a daisy flower stamped onto Shrinky Dink plastic (colored with yellow and orange Sharpie markers), heated and made into a charm.

I'd like to enter my Flower Garden Mini Book into the following challenges:

Recipe:
  • Light green and kraft cardstock from stash; re-purposed piece of cardboard from back of a mat stack
